Guwahati epitomizes the cultural vibrancy of this city. There are many exquisite temples. Start your journey by visiting the Ugro Tara Temple situated at Lotaxil. You will get surprised by the deity in the sanctum sanctorum. The goddess worshipped here is Tara, which is a ditch of water. From there you can visit the famous Kamakhya Devi temple. The temple is situated on one of the highest points in the city. The temple is associated with the legend of Goddess killing Narakasur. Besides that, it is also an ancient piece of architecture and a must watch. After lunch, move on to see some more temples such as Bhuvaneshwari and Navagraha temple built in the 18th century. After a holy sojourn, come down to relax on the foothills of Sandhychal hills and visit the Basishtha Ashram founded by sage Vasishta himself. Get back to your hotel for a dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2: Explore the Scotland of East, Shillong
Come home to the land of Khasi and Jayantia hills, numerous waterfalls and lakes. Get out of your room and just stroll down to absorb the beauty of Shillong. Start your journey with Umiam Lake. Once you visit this lake you will understand why it is called the ‘Scotland of East’. It shares some similarity with the Lochs of Scotland. You can enjoy a few water sports in the sports complex or just soak in the environment with pines and ferns on beautiful mountains. After lunch, visit the Elephant Falls which is a collection of several waterfalls coming down to a small lake. Also visit Shillong Peak, which is the highest point in the city and gives a panoramic view of the entire town. Dinner and overnight stay in hotel.
Day3: The mystic of Cherrapunjee
Enjoy trekking and river canyoning on the hills of Cherrapunjee. Credited with being the wettest places on Earth, it has numerous waterfalls, valleys and placid green locales. You may also get to cross the liveroot bridges, which are the best examples of bio engineering. Also visit the Nohkalikai falls. Steep chain of waterfalls. From the hilltop you can have a look at Bangladesh plains. It is recommended if you can pack your food and have a small picnic with your companions. After lunch, visit Duwanshing Syiem view point for a breathtaking scenery of its flora, Seven Sister Falls and Mausmai Cave. Dinner and overnight stay in hotel.
Day 4: Visit the Daoki village
Once you reach the place, have a small walk down the village to get the feel of it. The people here are very warm. You can spend some time interacting with them and getting familiar to their lifestyles , if it interests you. After lunch, visit the Kali temple, an ancient abode dedicated to Goddess Kali. From there, visit the Sindai Cave and turn to Tamabil, a border post. Dinner and overnight stay in hotel.
Day 5: Get drowned in drizzle at Mawlynnong
Cited as one of the cleanest villages in India, Mawlynnong, is a community based initiative. Its residents care for their environment a tad too much. The village has a rich variety of flora and some flowers which you may see for the first time in your lives. It looks explicitly beautiful during the monsoon. Several waterfalls and small streams add to its natural beauty. Trekking around the locales and hills is the best way to enjoy its beauty.
